We are very privileged to be partnering with Edinburgh Short Film Festival in 2017 who screen the best in contemporary short cinema at the Filmhouse & Summerhall every October. Puppet Animation Scotland will be bringing a brand new award to their festival which aims to shine a spotlight on the best and most innovative artists working with short form animated film.
A selection of short animated films will be presented during the festival and a panel of jurors will choose one film as winner of the inaugural Animation Award. The award of £500 will aim to recognise significant creative and technical innovation. Further to the award itself, we will be organising a one-to-one support session with Puppet Animation Scotland and an internationally acclaimed animator during our manipulate Visual Theatre Festival 2018.
Puppet Animation Scotland’s Artistic Director, Simon Hart, has this to say:
In light of Creative Scotland’s recent and very welcome Review of the Scottish Animation Sector, we are delighted to announce this new award, one of our growing responses to finding practical ways to support and celebrate animators.
The best submissions for 2017 will also be included in short film programming for other festivals across the UK and Internationally.
This year ESFF will be curating programmes for Asia’s biggest short film festival Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, Tokyo, Mecal – The Barcelona International Short Film Festival, the Sardinia Film Festival, Australia’s Scot’s Day Out and Edinburgh’s own, Hidden Door, a unique arts festival that, this year, will take place in Leith Theatre.
