Call Out for Proposals

Puppet Animation Festival 2018

The Puppet Animation Festival presents a programme of children’s puppet theatre, visual theatre, animated films and workshops for audiences, aged 0-12, all over Scotland. Taking place across the country, from the Highlands to the Borders, from the Islands to the Central Belt, participating companies present their work in a wide variety of venues including city centre theatres, urban arts and community centres down to the smallest of remote rural village halls.

We are currently looking for companies who would be interested in touring a piece of work with us during the Puppet Animation Festival, 25 March – 15 April 2018.

If you create work or workshops for children using puppetry, object manipulation, visual theatre or animated film, please let us know, we’d love to talk to you.

We are particularly interested in programming work that caters for Scotland’s diverse communities and children and work which encourages equality and environmental awareness.

Application Process

If you are interested in taking part, please contact Simon Hart, Artistic Director, via email, including the following information:

  • Tour pack for the production/film including basic technical requirements
  • Short Biography of the artist/company
  • Links to website and previous work
  • Video footage of the proposed production/film via vimeo link

The Puppet Animation Festival is largely a rural touring event and, with this in mind, has particular stipulations for participating artists regarding technical requirements, company size and transport. Once we have discussed the suitability of your proposed production or film, we will send you an application form.

What Next?

Once we have received all of the applications, we select a programme of around 25 productions, films and workshops. We then circulate our Production Pack – containing the marketing and technical specifications of the participating companies – to our network of Scottish venues who, in collaboration with Puppet Animation Scotland, programme particular productions, workshops and films for their audiences.

Once we have confirmed all our venues’ choices participating companies are provided with their tour schedules. We aim to provide all productions with at least three performance opportunities.

Timeline

The deadline for applications is Friday 11 August. All applicants will be contacted by Friday 25 August to let them know whether they have been successful or not. The production pack will circulate Scottish venues from September – November with companies being provided their tour dates by the end of the year.

Puppet Animation Scotland has produced the Puppet Animation Festival since 1984. We will celebrate our 35th anniversary in 2018. Please contact Simon Hart, Artistic Director, simon@puppetanimation.org for more information.
