manipulate 2018 Masterclass Programme

We are pleased to announce the manipulate Visual Theatre Festival masterclass programme for 2018, which will be hosted at Dance Base from January 27 2018 – February 3 2018. (The performance programme will be announced on November 8 2017.)

We are thrilled to be working with 3 highly talented artists within their respective disciplines:

Firstly Eric Bass from Sandglass Theater will be moving away from utilising puppets on flat surfaces, such as tables, to explore the possibilities of creating relationships between your puppets and the terrain in which it walks and explores. Actors tread the boards of the stage, but what are the boards of a puppet’s performance world? How can those boards become an asset to the puppet?

Secondly, Agnes Limbos from Compagnie Gare Centrale will be utilising participants imagination and curiosity in both individual and collective exercises, the masterclass will explore how actors and objects work together on stage, and the various ways objects can be manipulated before an audience, whilst encorporating the actor. “Object theatre works with objects, but not in a puppet-like way. The object becomes a source of inspiration; it is moved rather than manipulated. There isn’t a puppeteer behind the object, but an actor who breathes life into the object.” – Agnès Limbos

Finally, Sabine Molenaar from the formidable Sandman will be presenting a highly physical masterclass giving participants the ability to keep learning from the body by, to expand the capacities of their body, and the ability to create surprising directions by transformation of times, spaces and bodies.
