2020 marks the third year in which the festival presents a series of animated shorts in one-day including, Edinburgh Short Film Festival’s ANIMATED HIGHLIGHTS: 2019; Festival Stop Motion Montréal – the world’s first festival devoted exclusively to stop frame animation – with A TASTE OF QUEBEC; and leading award-winning animator Emma Calder introducing PEARLY OYSTER PRODUCTIONS: A RETROSPECTIVE followed by a Q&A.

Work by new emerging talents, as well as that of established artists, provides a glimpse of the dynamic creativity of filmmakers which makes the province one of the most important global centers of animated film.

PEARLY OYSTER PRODUCTIONS: A Retrospective

From potato prints to dancing clarinet reeds, the drawings of Eduardo Paolozzi to Queen Boudica, Roger Ballen’s photographs to the everyday challenges faced by one random person – a weird and wonderful programme of creatively diverse worlds and different styles of animation.

Over the past thirty years leading UK animator Emma Calder has been dedicated to creating award-winning films. Making work which is innovative, challenging and original, she loves that you can cram so many ideas into short animated films. Emma will introduce her programme and at the end of the screening there will be an audience Q&A.
