MANIPULATE #14 will see the return of our animated film programme, featuring diverse and award-winning animated shorts from Scotland and around the world over two evenings in our Digital Festival.

ANIMATED WOMXN

DAY 5 / DIGITAL FESTIVAL / THU 4 FEB

We are very proud to introduce our inaugural Animated Womxn event – a womxn led showcase of extraordinary stop-frame animations and VFX work. The programme features 12 animated shorts from Brazil, Czech Republic, England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa and the USA. The project is curated by Puppet Animation Scotland and supported by Animated Woman UK, Scotland (AWUK) and the PANIMATION Network.After the screening, AWUK will lead a creative panel discussion with 5 animators from the Animated Womxn programme to discuss their creative practice and to reflect on their experiences as womxn in the animated film industry.

DRINK’N’DRAW WITH PANIMATION

DAY 5 / DIGITAL FESTIVAL WORKSHOP / THU 4 FEB

Join us too for a relaxed social workshop, DRINK ‘N’ DRAW WITH PANIMATION, an evening of chats and games, exploring how to combat gender stereotypes through character development when generating new stories. You don’t need any drawing or animation experience, only enthusiasm and a glass of wine! PANIMATION is a multi-platform community of womxn, trans and non-binary people working within animation and motion graphics.

ANIMATED HIGHLIGHTS 2021: ISOLATION AND CONNECTION

DAY 4 / DIGITAL FESTIVAL / TUE 2 FEB

We are very pleased that for the fourth year we will welcome back the Edinburgh Short Film Festival to curate another dynamic programme of award-winning international short animated films. In this pandemic year, the programme will explore moments of connection and isolation with ANIMATED HIGHLIGHTS: ISOLATION AND CONNECTION. Featuring works from Slovenia, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, USA, New Zealand and the UK, each explores an aspect of the things which draw us together or pull us apart.

Featured as part of this programme is the Puppet Animation Scotland / Edinburgh Short Film Festival 2020 Best Animated Film Award winner, NIGEL by Nataszna Cetner, alongside works by Pieter Coudyzer, Segolene Romier, Izzy Gibbs, Milanka Fabjancic, Damon Mohl, Gabriel Bohmer, Martin Romero and Paul James.
