Over the last week we’ve been in the West of Edinburgh delivering our AnimATE workshop sessions with our venue partner’s Corstorphine Community Centre, Clovenstone Community Centre and WHALE.

Have a look at what we got up to – captured by videographer Ollie Benton at our WHALE Arts session.

Ten families took part in our animation sessions across three days in the October break and made some fantastic animations using natural materials, pumpkins, card, paper and dried ingredients to create characters with our animators Dominika and Holly. You can watch a compilation of their short stop motion films here.

Moving on to their cooking stations, everyone took part in making a pumpkin risotto with Kirsty from Edinburgh Food Social before eating together and watching their films on the big screen.

After the workshops we were able to hand out AnimATE at home packs for participants as well as leaving some behind in each venue for other groups to use.

If you’d like to download a copy of our AnimATE at home card to get you started with animation at home too – click here.

Kirsty also put together recipe kits with the ingredients and instructions needed for people who didn’t take part in the workshop to collect from the centre’s community fridges, food share points or hand out at their meal clubs.

Clovenstone Community Centre are a Fareshare pick up point for Edinburgh West.

WHALE Arts have an online food resources map for South West Edinburgh and host free community takeaways and meals each week.

Corstorphine Community Centre are running Nourish to Flourish cooking activity during the October holidays. Find out more.

We’re carrying out some evaluation with our partners as well as putting together the thoughts of everyone that took part to explore how we can bring AnimATE to more families across the city – so look out for ways to contribute to our engagement projects as they develop!

Thanks to everyone that came to AnimATE with us!
