During March 2022 Puppet Animation Scotland worked with animators Dominika Jackowska and Holly Summerson to deliver a week of animation in North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, kicking off a longer term partnership programme with Taigh Chearsabhagh Arts Centre engaging school pupils with visual art forms.
Animation workshops were requested by pupils within the school, and following on from our community based project AnimATE we adapted the workshop format with input from teaching staff at Sgoil Uibhist A Tuath to offer learning for staff and pupils in basic cut out animation creation.
Taking an Easter theme and working over 4 days, 45 pupils from P1 -P5/Gaelic Learner/Gaelic Medium classes created an animation that was screened during the virtual school assembly at the end of the week and can now be viewed online. Watch the film here!
Pupils fed back enthusiastically in Gaelic and English about their experience of the Animation Week…
“This is the best day. Seo an latha as fhearr leam. :)”
“Si toili leam animation ๐ (โโI like animation)”
“Bha e sgoinneil ๐ (โโIt was great!)”
“It was one of the best experiences of my life!”
“I really liked the animation. It is so hard for me to pick my favourite part. But my favourite part was taking the pictures and wiggling the stuff about.”
We are working with Taigh Chearsabhagh to develop further activity in North Uist that encourages engagement and learning about and through animation, visual theatre and puppetry.
